Cadzand

Beaches

Cadzand is the southernmost resort in the Netherlands. This Zealandic-Flemish coastal city has a wide beach and is located in a beautiful dune area. The West Zealandic-Flemish coast is unique, quiet and has plenty of space. The more than 10 km of coastline runs from the municipality of Sluis to the estuary of the Westerschelde, in Breskens, until the Belgian border in nature area 'Het Zwin’. The beaches are wide and the natural dunes area, unique nature areas such as the 'Zwarte Polder' (Black Polder) and 'Het Zwin’. There are also fossils of shells, and of shark and ray teeth to be found. Furthermore, the province of Zeeland has the most sun hours in the Netherlands during the summer. An excellent start for a lovely beach vacation.

The beaches of Cadzand have won already several major awards. In 2011, the beach received (each year without interruption since 2005) the 'International Blue Flag environmental award' again. It guarantees high quality of bathing water and a well kept clean beach. In 2008, 2006 and 2005 the town won the title of 'Cleanest beach of the Netherlands’.

Beach tips

  • At low tide there is a strong current towards the sea, than stay close to shore. In case you get pulled in by the current do not try to swim straight against it, but swim slanting to the shore with the current. Also be aware of floating devices like air-beds, boats or other swimming devices.
  • Do not get to close to the poles, piers or other obstacles.
  • Watch your children carefully, do not let them alone near the water. Are there recognition signs on the beach, tell it to your children.
